A Reflection….on si vis pacem, para bellum

There is a beauty in the behaviour of a rough sea, but the wind it brings throws one around like a rag doll; a mirror to any and all inner turmoil. Bexhill provided both, upon arrival and leading up to the reading and launch event for Mousai’s publishing of Intersection I; si vis pacem, para bellum……..

si vis pacem, para bellum – Launch and Reading Event

On Saturday 13th September 2025, Mousai’s first intersecting issue will be published, and marked with a launch event at The Candle Orchard in Bexhill-on-Sea, near Brighton. Under the title of ‘si vis pacem, para bellum’, the issue centres trans+ voices responding to, and erasing erasure, against the backdrop of a world that denies, dehumanises, deliberately misunderstands, and erases us……..

In: scribble(s) I – III

In: scribble(s) is an experiment in ‘immediate writing’. Quickly written pieces, within a few minutes, no editing; just urgency.

Ahead of the more public announcement of the following publication, I wanted to first share this with the followers of the website and newsletter. In addition to the core issues that Mousai centres itself around, we are increasingly working on intersecting issues that inhabit the aim of platforming and publishing specifically marginalised and othered voices. The increasing toxicity, trauma, and erasure present within the world demands a project such as Mousai takes this stand and produces such work.
The first of these intersecting issues is to be published in September 2025, under the title of ‘si vis pacem, para bellum’. This is an issue that centres around Trans+ voices responding to, and resisting erasure.

A Note From…., Jonathan Hourigan, Screenwriter

Hourigan, perhaps most notably, worked as assistant to Robert Bresson (L’Argent, 1983), chaired ‘Notes on Bresson’ conference in 2023, and is editor and contributor to ‘Coming to terms with Robert Bresson’, to be published in 2026 by University of Manchester Press.
More recently, Hourigan was screenwriter on the prize-winning ‘At the door of the house who will come knocking’ and ‘Bring them down’ (both 2024).
