MOUSAI, ISSUE I – AVAILABLE NOW
It is with relief and pleasure, that the first issue of Mousai is now available in the shop section of this website. It also on the shelf of the wonderful Tender Books on London’s infamous Cecil Court, and international distribution is being confirmed.
The process to get to this point has been a long and arduous one, with many delays as a result of both mental distresses/poor mental health and the world at large erecting endless obstacles. Apt, for an endeavour focused on transgression and the commitment to exploring and exposing the cracks in the world.
Thank you, to that end, to the patience of everyone interested. I hope that those who choose to purchase it find something meaningful and purposeful. The next issue will be available within the next six months, and the intention currently is to make Mousai a biannual publication.
This first instalment of Mousai consists of a varied collection of work from five very different artists, all exploring different shades of the journals overarching themes, outlook, and ethos; Transgression, Esotericism, Liminality.
ESTER KARKKAINEN
Ester is an artist working across multiple disciplines.
For Mousai, Issue I, Ester has explored the body as experience and expresser, across 14 pieces which use original photography as their genesis, but reimagine them through solve et coagula, to express themselves anew as collage.
Challenging, explicit, and powerful works which subvert and empower.
Ester can also be found weaving aural disruption via her noise project,

Visually inspired by the Iberian Mask.
Ink on paper with a slight digital manipulation.”
Ana, under the moniker of Malefactors Hand, is an artist exploring different esoteric ideas, spanning hidden paths expressed through layered sigil-like expressions. The collection is framed as ‘Traveller’s Mask’.

BETHAN DAVIS; ASH AND BONE CRAFT
Bethan, the artist behind Ash and Bone Craft, ordinarily works with the aftermath of Death to create jewellery and oddities.
In the first issue of Mousai, the artist has documented the genesis point of her craft with a photographic series which explores the intimacy and brutality of Death, with raw, non-naive honesty.

B. H. N. Q; BEYOND ART
Artist Brian Nguyen, working under the moniker of Beyond Art, expresses through a variety of artistic technique.
For Mousai, Issue I, Brian has given a series of 14 etchings, exploring the thin veils between life and death, and that which lies within the cracks between and beyond.

ZACCARIAH M. BROUGHTON
All six pieces very much connect in the story they tell, across the expressive forms of poetry, prose, photography, and raw art.
This is intensely personal and painful art, expressed so candidly and honestly that Mousai is blessed to have received the contribution.
The artist experiences serious and degenerative illness, but the expressions can relate to all of us, across the tumult of trauma, tribulation, and transgression of human experience.

A quick note on postage – I have kept this as low as possible, to the extent that the cost of each option doesn’t quite cover the full cost – but regretfully postage costs are very expensive currently, particularly when sending outside of the UK. I will continue to make efforts to find ways to reduce this where possible, and efforts to secure international distribution are ongoing.
