A Note From…., Jonathan Hourigan, Screenwriter

I am very grateful to have received this note from screenwriter Jonathan Hourigan this morning, following their view of issues I and II, and subsidiary online work, of Mousai.
Hourigan, most notably perhaps, worked as an assistant to Robert Bresson (L’Argent, 1983), chaired ‘Notes on Bresson’ conference in 2023, and is editor and contributor to ‘Coming to Terms with Robert Bresson’, to be published in 2026 by University of Manchester Press.
Most recently, Hourigan was the screenwriter for the prize-winning ‘At the door of the house who will come knocking’ and ‘Bring them down’ (both 2024).
In the intersecting years, Hourigan has worked as a screenwriter on numerous independent and large production films, was the head of screenwriting at the London Film School and is current Programme Director of MA Screenwriting at University of Manchester.

Mercury often situates messages, via that thrice great Hermes. This was a good one, much gratitude to Hourigan.

“Mousai [Kheir – Mousai] is a restless, enquiring and demanding entity, shedding its skin and transmogrifying into poet, musician, artist, curator, activist, publisher and cultural provocateur – or maybe inhabiting all of these at once. Since 2022 the transgressive, esoteric and liminal are the principal subject matter of the beautiful, multi-disciplinary art journal that Mousai conjures into being, a shadowy treasure trove of unexpected delights, a call to arms and an expression of defiance and authenticity that is truly transgressive as the “rough beast, its hour come round at last, Slouches towards Bethlehem to be born.” “
